Lil Wayne Released from Prison
Lil Wayne is free. The rapper was released from New York’s Rikers Island jail complex Thursday morning after serving eight months on a weapons conviction, a Rikers spokesman told TVGuide.com.
Wayne (real name: Dwayne Carter) will now head to Miami for a homecoming party on Sunday with family and friends at a strip club, MTV News reports.
Lil Wayne beings one-year jail term
Wayne pleaded guilty in October 2009 to attempted weapon possession. The charge stemmed from a July 2007 arrest. Wayne had previously pleaded not guilty, but later admitted to having a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus as part of a plea bargain for a reduced one-year sentence. He started his sentence in March, but got out early on good behavior.
