Although Sunday night’s telecast of the 2012 BET Awards drew in a whopping 10M plus tweets, it wasn’t enough to topple the previous year’s ratings.
According to EURweb, BET suffered a slight drop in rating from their 2011 show — overall it fell from 7.7M to 7.4M viewers.
Despite slightly lower than expected numbers, the show turned out to be the third most watched event of 2012 directly behind the Super Bowl and the Grammys.
Sunday’s show welcomed ESSENCE Music Festival performer D’Angelo, who made his first TV appearance in more than 12 years, Monica, Brandy, Cissy Houston and Chaka Khan who joined forces for a stellar Whitney Houston tribute.

I watched it and was uninspired! Aside from Mrs. Houston’s tribute, Frankie Beverly & Maze and Rev. Al and maybe one or two acts (Tyga & Monica/Brandy) it was a disappointing. The lyrics were dehumanizing and sexist and a good third of the show had to be censored. What did you think?
I finally got a chance to watch all of it, the lyrics were horrible not sure why they keep this up every year. I love the Whitney Houston Tribute other than that flat line for me. Thanks for commenting …love your blog btw….
