Blog Obsession

Guest post by Homer Nielsen

iPhone & TwitterI am completely obsessed with this celebrity gossip blog, http://www.dlisted.com. I find myself reading it all the time, whether it’s on my iPhone or at home. Now that I work from home I actually read it less than when I worked at an office. Reading dlisted was totally my escape from the boredom of my job. I just can’t get enough! The guy who writes it has a mean sense of humor, so my husband thinks it’s mean-spirited and thinks I shouldn’t read it. He hates it so much that he has threatened to take away my clear wireless privileges! I know the blog can get a little catty, but I really don’t think it’s that bad. The way I see it, if you are a celebrity and you do stupid things, you are opening yourself up to that kind of criticism. How am I supposed to feel bad for people who make millions of dollars a year for being pretty and only mildly talented? It’s not like I’m out there writing this stuff. I really don’t get why my husband has such distaste for it. Sometime I think he’s just jealous that I’m not paying all of my attention to him.

Teaching My Parents

Teaching my parents about technology is a lot of work and it’s tough for me to look at them and understand how far behind they are when it comes to working with computers. I got them cannon satellitea few months back and that’s what they’ve been using to watch TV and I have to say it’s a big step up for them both quality wise and technology wise from their rabbit ears! There’s nothing wrong with being a little behind the times but when I got my mom a flip phonefor Christmas last year and she took it back, that was a little ridiculous. I sure wish they’d go take an education class or something like that so they wouldn’t be so removed from the world. My job is online so I’m really into technology, to say the least, so it’s just really hard for me to get why they want to live this way but hey, I suppose it’s to each their own or whatever they say!

What is it people like so much about the water? I’m a therapist and I find that many of my clients feel their most peaceful when they’re by the water so I did something kind of crazy – I picked up my office and moved it out here to the lake! I find that people are able to open up to me more this way and I’ve got a lot more time to really dig down deep when they’re able to be more outspoken. It was a bit of a transition, though, and I definitely lost a few clients because it made the drive too far for them to really maintain. I had a hard time getting a commercial business license out here and I found internet through WWW.WILDBLUEdeals.com so there were a few things to sort out that I hadn’t really counted on. I love being closer to the water though myself so I think all in all it was a really great move for me and my practice to make in the long run!

Guarding my hair from the rain

Guest post written by Melanie Smith

One of the hardest things about having curly hair is guarding it from the elements. I get so many compliments on my hair all the time and people tell me they wish their hair could look like mine, but they really don’t understand all the trouble that I put into caring for and styling my hair. That goes triple for when the weather forecast calls for rain or high humidity. A lot of the times it seems like everything that I do to it on rainy things just reverses when I step outside.

I thought one easy way to prevent that would be to start wearing waterproof hats on rainy days, so I went online to find a good one to wear. While I was looking online, I came across some http://www.wildbluedeals.com/ that looked really great. So after I read a little more about them, I ordered one of them for my internet service at my apartment.

I did find a rain hat that I think will at least keep part of my hair from getting frizzy on rainy days. Every little bit helps.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show

The Ellen DeGeneres show is my favorite talk show. I watch it on my DirecTv satellite which is great if you love satellite TV en espanol. It’s funny and refreshing, compared to other daytime TV shows. The best thing about The Ellen Show is Ellen’s personality. She’s confident, and she’s an inspiration to women. Ellen’sgoofy humor brings a smile to my face. I love how she starts the show by dancing. Sometimes my three-year-old gets up and tries to dance with her. It’s great seeing him move around the living room.

Ellen has had lots of cool guests throughout the years. Without a doubt, my favorite guest was Gabby Sidibe, the actress who played the lead role in Precious. Gabby was on the show about a year ago. She has a funny, vibrant personality. I love that she’s comfortable in her own skin. She talked to Ellen about how she and her roommate choreographed a dance for her to perform on the show. I loved watching Gabby perform the dance with such confidence. She’s an inspiration to heavy-set women.

Sometimes I visit the Ellen DeGeneres Show’s website. They usually have funny pictures and stories posted. Most recently, they uploaded goofy pictures sent in from viewers. It’s a glorious montage of outdated hairstyles, weird clothing, and terrible facial expressions. I love it.

Popular Designer Jeans Worn By Celebrities

by: Amanda T.
Celebrities and there favorite jeans

The trends of the masses are known to follow the styles of those deemed “elite.” Current denim wear is certainly no exception, though the original denim was worn by “low-brow commoners” when it first gained popularity. These days, designer denim’s popularity is generally determined by its recognition among celebrities, but it doesn’t stop us from finding great Discount Designer Jeanswithout the hefty price tag. While there are plenty of designer brand jeans that are popular among celebrities as well as the rest of us, here are some of the most popular jeans that still give you the best product for the price.
Hudson
The “London Edge meets LA Glam,” Hudson Jeans have become one of the most popular designer jean brands among fashionistas and celebrities. Their unique style generally runs somewhere in the $170-$230 range, as is custom for designer jeans, and are known to last through many washes. While you may see your neighbors and coworkers in this great denim, the following celebrities are often caught in Hudson: Gisele Bundchen, Nicole Richie, Jennifer Aniston, Teri Hatcher, Katherine Heigl, Pink, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Alba, Joss Stone and more.
7 For All Mankind

Straight Denim by 7 For All Mankind at ShopStyle
It seems that 7 For All Mankind has attracted the attention of The Office. Co-stars Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski are fans, while some other big names such as Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore and Jessica Alba have been seen in this popular denim.
Paige Premium

Another big name among celebs, Page Premium seems to have captured Hollywood’s youth. Twenty-somethings Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, and Sophia Bush are often seen in these great jeans.
J Brand

One of the best brands to cross gender borders, J-Brand jeans are made for men and women in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Some of the guys and gals wandering around the streets in J-Brand denim include Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp, Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, Taylor Lautner, Kate Moss, Kristin Stewart, Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria Parker, Zac Efron, Gregory Michael just to name a few.
William Rast

Justin Timberlake’s newest endeavor has taken off in the last few years. While his famous friends were some of the first to don this denim, many others have quickly followed suit. The William Rast line of clothing is commonly worn by big name celebrities and athletes such as Alex Rodriguez, ex-gf Jessica Biel, Vanessa Minnillo, Jessica Simpson, and Sophia Bush.
If celebrity style means anything at all, then these brands of designer jeans, along with Womens Skinny Jeans and Womens Wide Leg Jeans are sure to be around for awhile.

Guest Post: “I’m Black and I’m Proud” Are You?

By S. Sundi

“I’m Black and I’m Proud” is a funk song written and recorded by James Brown in 1968. When James Brown recorded that song Africans in America across the nation felt a sense of pride about their heritage. The atrocious and depressing effect of slavery and racism in America is that it caused us blacks to hate ourselves.

Like a considerable amount of Africans in America, I grew up in an environment where hair like mine, kinky/nappy was labeled “bad hair.”
Straight hair or nappy free hair was “good hair.”

This issue is always a hot topic of debate in the black female community. Black women have given many different reasons for straightening their hair. “It’s more manageable.” “I like to switch it up from time to time.” “It’s cheaper to keep up a weave.” Hmmm.

Recently, I stumbled upon a YouTube documentary about Black women’s hair business in America. (Black Women’s Weave, Hair, Extensions) A statistic in the video that astounded me was that even though Black American Women only make up 10% of the population, they buy 70% of wigs and extensions purchased here in the U.S. Like Spike Lee said, “She’s Gotta Have It.” And I thought we were in a recession.

Excuse me for my ignorance but doesn’t wigs and extensions cover a women’s natural hair? What is it that black women are trying to hide? Is it self hate? I know I’m asking a lot of questions but I’m just a very inquisitive person.

Everybody Hates Chris, Except for Me

Thanks to Harper Abbott for sending this post in

One of my favorite shows is on thedirect tv channels all of the time. The show that I love is Everybody Hates Chris. There are not a whole lot of people who have ever watched this show and the more I watch it the more I do not understand why. This is a very funny show about a young black boy and his family. The main character Chris is constantly getting himself into trouble. His thoughts and actions are narrated by the great comedic genius Chris Rock. He of course makes the show that much funnier with his hilarious comments and the way that he talks.

You can find my family every week night gathered around the tv in the living room watching our favorite show. You can probably hear us laughing all over the entire neighborhood. I believe the show has been canceled for quite some time. As it usually goes, I am just now finding out how good it is. I tell everyone in the family about the show and why they should watch it. Most people have never heard about it before either. I can’t help but wonder why the show didn’t make it. I guess all good things must come to an end eventually. If I was not so slow about catching on to a good thing I might could have helped save it by tuning in when it first came on tv. Oh well, I guess my family and I will still enjoy it regardless.
