The Old Cures Aren’t Working

Sure, conventional wisdom says that doctors can easily cure gonorrhea with antibiotics–good news for the 300,000 people a year in the United States who get it, especially women: Although gonorrhea typically clears up on its own eventually, if it goes untreated it can leave us with pelvic inflammatory disease or infertility.

But here’s the scary part: We may not be able to treat it anymore. The bacterium that causes gonorrhea, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, is very crafty, says Gail Bolan, M.D., director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention. It mutates quickly and has grown resistant to every class of antibiotics used to treat it since the meds first became available in the 1940s. In 2007, doctors turned to cephalosporins, their last antibiotic hope.

Soon enough, cases resistant to some cephalosporins started popping up in Europe and Asia, says Manjula Lusti-Narasimhan, M.D., a scientist at WHO headquarters in Geneva. This January, researchers announced in The Journal of the American Medical Association that almost 7 percent of the gonorrhea cases they studied in one Canadian clinic were resistant to cefixime, a widely used cephalosporin.

YouTube has quietly rolled out what looks like major update to its YouTube Leanback program, making it easier for users to watch and control videos on a big screen.

The new mode, accessible via YouTube.com/TV, allows users to more easily control the YouTube experience from a TV or large monitor.

You control the interface with your keyboard — using the arrow keys to navigate and certain letter keys to access various functions. For example, the “G” key acts as home and “S” acts as search.

My-Even though Google TV has an app for Youtube on it I tried it on Google TV works great-actually better than the actually app for it! It do have to take some getting use to but it was fun to see!

Basketball Wives May Return With New Cast Mate Tasha Marbury

It is rumored that Latasha “Tasha” Marbury the wife of ex-NBA star Stephon Marbury is in talks to join season 5 of Basketball Wives. Tasha is friends with some of the wives already and VH1 needs to fill the spot of fired cast mates, Royce Reed, Jennifer Williams and Kesha Nichols. Currently Stephon plays in China for the Beijing Ducks. Tasha was also allegedly asked to join season 1 of VH1′s hit series, but Stephon said no, may be the call of the USA made him change his mind and notoriety that will follow and the mega bucks these women are paid. There is no word if Evelyn Lozada will be coming back as yet.

NEW MONEY: Could the almighty dollar get a redesign see photos

Why the size?
We have kept the width the same as the existing dollars. However we have changed the size of the note so that the one dollar is shorter and the 100 dollar is the longest. When stacked on top of each other it is easy to see how much money you have. It also makes it easier for the visually impaired to distinguish between notes.

Why a vertical format?
When we researched how notes are used we realized people tend to handle and deal with money vertically rather than horizontally. You tend to hold a wallet or purse vertically when searching for notes. The majority of people hand over notes vertically when making purchases. All machines accept notes vertically. Therefore a vertical note makes more sense.

Why different colors?
It’s one of the strongest ways graphically to distinguish one note from another.

Why these designs?
We wanted a concept behind the imagery so that the image directly relates to the value of each note. We also wanted the notes to be educational, not only for those living in America but visitors as well. Each note uses a black and white image depicting a particular aspect of American history and culture. They are then overprinted with informational graphics or a pattern relating to that particular image.

$1 – The first African American president
$5 – The five biggest native American tribes
$10 – The bill of rights, the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution
$20 – 20th Century America
$50 – The 50 States of America
$100 – The first 100 days of President Franklin Roosevelt. During this time he led the congress to pass more important legislation than most presidents pass in their entire term. This helped fight the economic crises at the time of the great depression. Ever since, every new president has been judged on how well they have done during the first 100 days of their term.

Gabby Douglas — 16-Year-Old Recruited HARD By Black College

16-year-old Gabby Douglas is officially being recruited by one of the most prestigious black universities in the country … Spelman College … and TMZ has learned the school president has even flown to London to get a leg up on the competition.

We’ve learned … Spelman — an all-girl college in Georgia — wants Gabby in a bad way … and sources at the University tell us the Team USA gymnastics superstar has become the number 1 recruit … by far.

In fact, the President of Spelman, Beverly Daniel Tatum, went out to London and made sure Gabby got a Spelman gift bag … containing a congratulatory note, school t-shirt and a CD containing a song produced by the college.

which she acknowledges the school would LOVE to get its hands on the gold medal winner:

“A young woman who has demonstrated the drive and discipline needed to achieve world-class excellence is likely to have what it takes to be successful at Spelman, and we would welcome her interest in the college.”

Spelman is no joke … both Martin Luther King Jr. and Bill Cosby have daughters who attended S.C.
