Teen Mom Allegedly Tried Smothering Baby

FORT WORTH, Texas – A teenager tried to smother her baby at a Fort Worth hospital, according to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Shantaniqua Nykole Scott, 17, allegedly committed the act so she could “make her life easier,” the report stated.

Officers arrested Scott on Friday and have since determined she had tried three previous times to suffocate the infant in Waco, the report stated.

Police said Scott was caught on surveillance video pressing a blanket over the child’s face, before using only her hand, the article read.

Medical personnel revived the infant, who was barely breathing, before transferring him to the pediatric intensive care unit.

The boy is expected to fully recover.

Scott is charged with causing injury to a child, a first-degree felony punishable by up to life in prison.

She is being held on $25,000 bail.
