Former Sanford police chief slammed in emails over Trayvon Martin case

SANFORD – In his waning days as Sanford police chief, Bill Lee received blistering emails with every curse word imaginable, criticizing him for not immediately arresting George Zimmerman for fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Emails obtained by The Associated Press show he also got requests for media interviews from as far away as Qatar’s Al Jazeera network and letters of support from other law enforcement officers nationwide. Emails from the scholarly website, racismreview.com, and the media monitoring site, TVEyes, started showing up in his inbox even though he hadn’t subscribed to them.

“The truth will come out later,” Lee wrote in an email to a supporter.

Martin’s Feb. 26 death in a gated community in the Orlando suburb of Sanford first drew national attention on March 8, the day his relatives held their first news conference to draw attention that Zimmerman hadn’t been arrested. Zimmerman wouldn’t be charged with second-degree murder until 44 days after the shooting. During that time, protesters around the nation demanded Zimmerman’s arrest, and the Sanford Police Department was accused of racism and incompetence.

Zimmerman, 28, pleaded not guilty and was released on a $1 million bond while he awaits trial. He is claiming self-defense.

The emails to Lee on that first day of national attention started off forceful but polite.

“When are you going to make an arrest for this crime of murder of a 17-year-old who was armed with Skittles and a can of iced tea?” Mark Anderson wrote from Chicago.

Lee responded with a form letter he used repeatedly, saying his department was conducting a thorough investigation.

The chief was aware that interest in the case was growing by the minute so he sent an email to Sanford’s mayor and city manager soon afterward, stating that some of the evidence corroborated Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. He had assured Martin’s family that a thorough investigation was being conducted and that the State Attorney’s Office supported the decision not to arrest Zimmerman immediately, he wrote in the email to his bosses.

By that evening, the emails from around the nation were getting heated and vulgar.

“WTF are you waiting for?” said one email from a person only identified as Jerry. “C’mon man, grow a —— pair and do the right thing!”

Sanford portrayals
The AP obtained the emails through a public records request. The emails cover five nonconsecutive days from March 8 to when Lee took a leave of absence from his $102,000-a-year job on March 22, a day after he had received a vote of no confidence from Sanford city commissioners. He was fired in June after less than a year on the job. Before taking the position, he had been a sheriff’s deputy for 27 years.

Lee, 52, refused a request for an interview. His spokeswoman, Sara Brady, said he has been enjoying time with his family.

The emails to Lee streamed in from around the country, portraying Sanford as a small, racist Southern town, akin to Maycomb, Ala., from Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird,” with a redneck Barney Fife-like chief running its police department. In fact, Sanford is an Orlando suburb with a gentrified downtown of coffee shops, art galleries and cafes. Lee has a master’s degree in public administration and has received training from the FBI.

The emails urged Lee to resign and asked how he could sleep at night. A few recommended he commit suicide and one called Lee the worst person on earth.

Tammi Cubilette, assistant director of instructional support services at the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York wrote “Where’s your buddy George Zimmerman? Maybe the two of you can play Stand Your Ground with each other and the world will be a little less scummier!”

Cubilette, in a telephone interview on Wednesday, said she stood by her email but realizes information that has since been released shows there were Sanford police detectives who doubted Zimmerman’s story and that the investigation was more thorough than initially thought.

Lee feels validated by evidence that has been released since Zimmerman’s arrest showing detectives took investigative steps that they had been accused of ignoring, Brady said.

Supporters
Lee also had his supporters, particularly among law enforcement officers.

“Hang in there!!! Trial by fire makes for good police chiefs!” Richard Beary, the chief of the University of Central Florida’s police force wrote.

By mid-March, as the fury was building, Lee sent out an email to his officers, warning them to take precautions when responding to calls given that emotions were running high. He also defended his department’s actions.

“Be courteous and professional when members of the community may voice their position and disdain for the police department,” he wrote. “The investigation of this incident was complete and unbiased. There is no reason for anyone in the police department to feel we have done anything but a professional job in providing police service and trying to rebuild the trust of the community.”

‘Ugly Betty’ Actor In Custody In Samurai Sword Killing

An actor who appeared on “Ugly Betty” was taken into custody in Brooklyn this morning for allegedly killing his mother with a 3-foot long samurai sword while screaming biblical passages.

According to the police, the suspect — Michael Brea — sliced his mother’s head off during the attack. When cops arrived to the scene around 2:20 AM, officers say Brea was clutching the bible. Cops ultimately had to use a taser to subdue the actor. Brea was taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation with a police escort. Police claim the scene was “extremely bloody.” A neighbor told WPIX 11, “I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he’s just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, ‘Repent, Repent, Repent.'” The neighbor continued, “I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911.” Brea has not been formally arrested or charged yet. We’re told he’ll will be turned over to the NYPD once his psychiatric evaluation is complete. Mario Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting His Mom

R&B star was apparently involved in an altercation early Friday morning in Baltimore.

R&B singer Mario was arrested Friday morning (October 1) for allegedly assaulting his mother. He was taken into custody after police came to the Baltimore apartment the singer shares with his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, who said he hit her. According to The Baltimore Sun, he was charged with second-degree assault and released on $50,000 bond.

According to a statement to MTV News from the Baltimore Police Department, police found Hardaway sobbing in the lobby of their apartment on Fell Street around 12:50 a.m. She informed police that her son, born Mario Dewar Barrett, was in their home “throwing and damaging property” and “started yelling at her and he used his hands and forearms and pushed her in the chest and shoulder area causing minor pain and discomfort.” Officers found a smashed mirror and closet door with a hole in it. A china cabinet was also broken and shattered glass covered the floor, the Sun reports.

Hardaway also said Friday’s incident was not the first time her son had assaulted her. She told police that Mario had pushed her “eight feet into a living-room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall,” on September 27. She “stated her head still hurts because of hitting the wall” and maintained that she feels her life is in danger.

Although no specific cause has been cited for Mario’s behavior, the singer’s lawyer, William “Hassan” Murphy III, referenced Hardaway’s substance-abuse issues in a statement to MTV News.

“This is an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction,” Murphy said. “Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions. Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother.”

Mario has had an admittedly rocky relationship with his mother, which he explored in the 2007 MTV documentary “I Won’t Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom.” In the film, Mario candidly discusses his complex bond with Hardaway, who battles heroin addiction and had declined treatment and experienced several relapses in the past. Mario, known for hits like “Let Me Love You” and “Break Up,” stages an intervention for Hardaway, during which he pleads, “I want to give you the gift of life, like you gave me.” She ultimately enters a rehab facility in Los Angeles. Police say man molested sleeping girl after breaking into Dallas apartment

A 27-year-old man slipped into a Far North Dallas apartment through an open door and molested a teenage girl as she slept Sunday morning, according to police documents.

The 13-year-old’s father rushed to her aid and found Napoleon Romero Lopez hiding in a closet in the apartment, the documents said. A violent struggle ensued between the girl’s father and Lopez, who at one point bit the father’s left thumb.

“I’m in a gang, and I’m going to kill you if you call the police,” Lopez said, according to police.

Lopez is being held at the Dallas County Jail on multiple charges, including indecency with a child, burglary and criminal mischief. He is from El Salvador and is suspected of being in the country illegally, according to police and jail records.

“Anybody looking at this would be horrified about it and rightfully so,” said Dallas police Lt. C.L. Williams.

Investigators do not believe Lopez knew the girl or that he specifically targeted her apartment.

“Our sense is he was randomly trying doors and found one that was opened and went in and committed this offense,” Williams said.

Lopez is believed to have entered apartment in the 13300 block of Emily Road, near LBJ Freeway and North Central Expressway, about 8:05 a.m. The girl woke up during the attack and alerted her father, who had been on the patio, documents said.

After finding Lopez in the closet, the father grabbed him and escorted him down a flight of stairs, according to police documents. During the struggle, Lopez pulled a large clump of hair from the girl’s father’s head.

“There was definitely a struggle, as you might anticipate, but I think [the father] showed commendable restraint,” Williams said.

Someone in the home called 911 and officers arrived and arrested Lopez. Once he was handcuffed and in the back of a squad car, he “became irate, violent and belligerent,” documents said.

Lopez “slammed his head multiple times on the cage and vehicle windows,” injuring himself, documents said. He “then bit the left rear door panel several times,” causing about $100 worth of damage to the police cruiser.

Officers took him to jail, where he was being held on $202,500 bail Tuesday night, according to jail records.

Lopez, who lives near the apartment complex, has no known criminal record in Dallas County, and there is no indication he committed other similar crimes on Sunday.

The girl did not suffer serious physical injuries. Her father was treated at the scene for his injuries.

Now this case/story is really bothering me why? Well because she is 15 years old, now I have a photo to photo of the 15 year old missing girl poster & her myspace photo. You will see the side by side photo of her below, on the left is the missing poster photo and on the right is her myspace photo. She says she’s a pornstar and not 15 years old, could be true could be a look a like. Now the way she talks on her myspace and twitter page makes me think otherwise. Now I am not sure why there has not been any investigation on this case. There also has been speculations that she tried to commit suicide, so not sure of that either. I wish someone could clear this whole thing up but not heard a word so far. The videos of her doing porn has not been removed from the internet why if this is a 15 year old girl the media and the police need to be all over this. Well let’s hope we all can find the truth about this.

Surveillance show man getting beat by Fort Worth Police Officers

A man arrested on suspicion of DWI is seeking a settlement after Fort Worth police video shows him with his hands restrained behind his back when he is slammed to the floor.The Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday was expected to consider a settlement agreement with 40-year-old Carey Cass Hudson.The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Hudson suffered a broken nose, a concussion and has brain damage from the 2008 incident at a holding facility. Driving while intoxicated charges were later dropped.Court documents indicate an officer accused of mishandling Hudson will be issued a written reprimand and ordered to seek anger-management counseling.Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead, who took office after the incident, says the officer’s actions are “disturbing” and he has held the officer as accountable as he can.His mom talked to the city today to not approve the $120,000 settlement. I truly agree with her this an insult, her son has a brain injury also had a broken nose in this horrific beating.

Missing Persons: Trudie Hall missing 23 year old woman…. read on

Trudie Hall, a missing pregnant woman from Nantucket, is reportedly feared dead. Law enforcement sources have told The Cape Cod Times they believe 23-year-old Trudie Hall is no longer alive. Her mother reported her missing last Wednesday. She went to Hyannis last Tuesday and has not been heard from since.

Police found her rented Toyota Avalon Friday and sources told CBS affiliate WBZ there were traces of blood in it. Hall is five-feet five-inches tall with a slender build. She is four months pregnant, according to her mother.

Police ask anyone with information about Trudie Hall’s disappearance to call the Barnstable Police Department at 508-771-6237.

Jaheim Arrested For Drug Possession!

Jaheim Hoagland, 32, of Hillsborough was pulled over near Royce Brook Golf Course on March 28 for allegedly traveling 65 mph in a 35 mph zone and was then charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. Hillsborough Police reported that they could smell a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Hoagland gave police consent to search his vehicle after yelling at authorities, police said. During the search, Hillsborough Police allegedly noticed a small bud of marijuana underneath the driver’s seat. Police said they also observed several cigar wrappers, cigar shaving and cigar paper, which is consistent with marijuana use. Hoagland was also charged with speeding.

Dallas police announced Friday that they will charge neosoul singer Erykah Badu with disorderly conduct for her nude music video shoot on a downtown street.

Sgt. Warren Mitchell announced Friday that police will be citing her for disorderly conduct for the “Window Seat” music video shoot March 13, in which she performed a walking striptease in front of tourists and pedestrians.

The performance ends with a nude Badu, a Dallas native, acting out receiving a fatal gunshot to the head at the spot where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

Mitchell said his department has received calls from people across the country to express their concern. But police and the city attorney’s office made the decision to cite her after a 32-year-old Vernon, Texas, woman voluntarily came in Thursday to give a sworn statement.

“Having a fact witness that was there is what let us file the charges,” he said. “After much discussion, we feel that these charges best fit her conduct. She disrobed in a public place without regard to individuals and small children who were close by.”

The disorderly charge is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable upon conviction by a fine of up to $500. Badu can choose between fighting the charge or paying the ticket in person or by mail.

The citation will be mailed to Badu, a Dallas native.

Carla Sims, a spokeswoman for Badu, had no immediate comment Friday.

March 25th in Miami for my birthday me and my boyfriend J*** was arguing with alot of personal issues.

Around 2:35pm that day we went to the gas station by the hotel. I was already not in the mood and I was crying already because he hit me at the hotel.

My cell phone goes off and he hurry up and took my phone away from me. He [then] get’s a gun from the backseat [and] pointed it at my stomach and told me If I try to leave Miami without him he would kill me!

I Got tired and i didn’t care about the gun and i jumped on him and started hitting him. He punched me and push[ed] me back on the seat he pushed my head to window. [Then] he put his hands around my neck and started choking me.

I look over and from the corner of my eye and seen a guy pointing at the car – it was two guys. [The] next thing I remember is my car door open and somebody snatched me out! I was shocked to find out this guy was Spectacular from Pretty Ricky and they road manager he was a real big guy.

J***, which is my boyfriend, pointed the gun at them and Spectalular said “Shoot me! be a man. But J**** put the gun down and started crying and said ” I love her we going thru personal issues and they need to leave.[But Spectacular said “Hell naw.”

The rest of the group ran over [and] J**** got of the car. Spectacular told me to go stand in the store while they handle him. The cashier called the police because he said he seen everything going on. I was crying and praying because I could have died!

J**** was arrested and I went with the officer because I needed to get back home. Pretty ricky said they was on they way to the airport. I thank them so much because they was angels coming to save me! I thank god he sent them at the right time of my life because I don’t know what would have happen!

They came at a time I was about to die and god sent me HELP! I’m thankful. my family is happy they were there to help. I really didn’t listen to their music but I thank them so much and It made me become a fan of them for being so humble and helping me and Spectacular for putting his life at risk.

I’m still here and I thank God #1 and I thank them. please make a blog of this because no matter what they Deserve credit where credits due. I respect them for that and also the cashier for calling the police!
