Scandals of Classic Hollywood….Then and Now


Dandridge suffered so that others wouldn’t have to. Yet fifty years after her death, when one would hope that all vestiges of discrimination, prejudice, and sexual stereotyping would have dissipated, they’re still alive, however quiet. Think of (mainstream) black female stars. There’s not a lot of them, so this won’t take you long.  Now think about who they’re allowed to be with onscreen, and the discourses about their sexuality off-screen. Whitney Houston could do little more than kiss Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. Halle Berry was archly criticized for taking a role in which she was hyper-sexualized and can’t open a movie. Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Hudson, Mon’ique — none of them can get a leading role in a major Hollywood picture, much less a romantic leading role. We may have a black president, but most Americans still don’t know what to do with a black, sexual woman onscreen.

Whitney Houston Dead at 48…. We remember her …..Timeline


Whitney Houston died yesterday (February 11) in Los Angeles at the age of 48. The singer passed away at the Beverly Hilton hotel she was pronounced dead at 3:55pm

2012 Grammy Awards (Sunday Night Feb.12) host LL Cool J wasted no time addressing the passing of Whitney Houston, leading the star-packed audience in a prayer in her honor.

Jennifer Hudson is Moving Back to Chicago
Jennifer and husband David Otunga have decided to move back to the Windy City so their 12-month-old son can grow up near their families.

Hudson and fiancé David Otunga welcomed son David Daniel Otunga Jr. just over a year ago, and want their son to experience growing up with their extended family around. Hudson, whose mother, sister, and nephew were brutally murdered in 2008, said of the move,

With the baby growing up, we want him to be around our family. We feel so secluded. Both David and I are the babies of the family, and we want to be home with our families as well.”

The singer/actress, who turns 29 in just a few days, said of her son, “I have got the sweetest little baby in the world. He just got two new teeth, so he smiles with them now – he pokes them out there, like, ‘Look at my teeth’.”

Hudson, who famously dropped 56lbs. since the birth of David Jr., then reconfirmed her plans for a second child, “I definitely want to have another one. I want to have a little girl, maybe in three or four years from now.”

After slimming down from a size 16 to a size 6, Jennifer Hudson thinks her body is perfect just where it is.

“I don’t want to lose any more weight, and you’re never going to see me skinny,” Hudson, 28, told InStyle Makeover magazine. “I think this is a good, natural size for me.”
